The Art of Getting By

Plot: George, a lonely and fatalistic teen who's made it all the way to his senior year without ever having done a real day of work, is befriended by Sally, a popular but complicated girl who recognizes in him a kindred spirit.
 If a fly buzzes around your ear, that's irritating. But if the fly is quirky and sensitive, wearing an artistic-looking overcoat, sits down next you and draws wanly in its sketch book, while at the same time having feelings for Emma Roberts? That's beyond irritating. You'll feel like swatting Freddie Highmore with a rolled-up newspaper the size of a railway carriage while watching this supremely annoying film, a teen drama populated by vulnerable indie moppets. Highmore is George, always moping around, clearly a brilliant artist but going nowhere. Roberts is Sally: ultra-pretty and popular but lonely. She sees in George not the passive-aggressive pest the rest of us see but a kindred spirit. Things go from there. It is all too similar to the equally fatuous teen-angst movie It's Kind of a Funny Story, also featuring Roberts's white-bread presence.
